Makerere University has promoted over 100 staff to different ranks of lecture, senior lecturer, professor and associate professors.
Among these, 5 have been promoted to the rank of professor, 18 to associate professors, 52 to senior lecturers, and 83 from the rank of assistant lecturer to lecturer.
Their promotions were confirmed by the acting human resource director Mr. Lawrence Sanyu in his circular dated July 24.
Mr. Lawrence Sanyu says the decision to promote 159 staff was taken during the 711th meeting of the appointments Board that sat last week.
Among the promoted are Dr. Ivan Lukanda, Dr. Gerald Walulya and Dr. Fred Kakooza from the department of journalism and communication. These have been promoted from the rank of lecturer to senior lecturer.
The promotions come will salary increments and new allowance packages.
The staff promotions come weeks after the university teaching staff threatened to go on strike next month if the institution fails to promote all the staff who are due for promotion.
