Makerere University has revised its fees payment policy to accommodate students who have paid at least 60% of their tuition for the 2024/2025 academic year.
This followed a petition from the Guild President H.E. Lubega Vicent Nsamba.
In a letter dated November 14, 2024, Vice Chancellor Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe informed the Guild President that the university had agreed that the fees policy remains in place, but its review may be commenced by the management.
For the current semester, students who have paid at least 60% of the fees they are required to pay and complete the remaining balance before the end of the semester will be allowed to sit their examinations.
Additionally, students who have paid more than 90% of their fees may be allowed to sit all their examinations and complete the balance in the next semester. All unpaid fees for the semester will remain a debt on the student’s account to be cleared in the next semester.
The decision comes after the Guild President petitioned the Vice Chancellor, citing concerns over students facing severe financial hardships and being barred from sitting exams due to incomplete fees payment.
“This is, therefore, to advise you that students who have not completed payment of fees 100% may be allowed to sit examinations as outlined above,” the Vice Chancellor’s letter stated.
