Makerere University’s electoral commission has officially released the roadmap for the guild election that will usher in a new 87th president in the guild house.
The roadmap comes at a time when political parties are already in high spirits to elect their flag bearers in the forthcoming race.
The release of the roadmap comes in with a call for candidates to prepare for the nomination exercise that will end on 2nd November.
Like the previous year, the election will be a blended one with some voters voting physically on campus while others shall vote electronically using their gadgets. The blended election is aimed at observing the SOPs and prevent spread of covid-19.
The electronic system will be tested on November 4th prior to the elections on 12th November. This is to oversee and deal away with any technical glitches that may challenge the possibility of a free and fair election that Kananga William’s electoral commission has vowed to conduct.
Last year’s blended election that saw Ssempijja Ivan perform heavenly wonders to become Makerere’s 86th guild president after a three day campaign run was said to have been one ill prepared.
Some candidates like NUP’s Oguttu Aron (1st runner up) claimed that the EC had used the online voting system to ridge the vote in favour of Ssempiga. We are yet to see if this year’s blended election will be free and fair for all.
