Yesterday 17th January 2022, a team from Makerere University led by the Vice Chancellor Prof Barnabas Nawangwe appeared before the parliamentary Education committee to present its budget for the coming 2022/2023 financial year.
Prof. Nawangwe presented the university appeal to parliament to allocate UGX 300 billion to aid in the construction of the university hospital, dental school and a state of the art innovation Centre at the university. He said that the innovation Centre will boost research which will make Makerere University a research oriented university.
In addition, Makerere University also requested UGX 12 billion to improve staff units, UGX 40 billion for the accommodation of graduate students and UGX 5.6 billion to facilitate the promotion of staff so that the university can achieve its dream of being a research-based university.
