The Biomedical Engineering Unit at Makerere University College of Health Sciences has announced scholarship applications for Ugandan students pursuing advanced degrees in biomedical engineering and related fields, funded by the U.S. National Institutes of Health Fogarty International Center in partnership with Case Western Reserve University.
The program aims to build Uganda’s capacity for medical technology innovation and develop human resources for biomedical engineering research.
Scholarships will provide comprehensive financial support for up to one academic year of Master of Science studies, covering tuition fees, monthly stipends, and research costs.
Recipients will focus on biomaterials and drug delivery, point-of-care diagnostics, biomedical imaging, and data analytics with artificial intelligence applications.
The scholarship particularly encourages applications from Master’s students in Technology Innovation and Industrial Development from CEDAT, Computer Science from CoCIS, and health-focused programs including Immunology and Clinical Microbiology, Health Informatics, and Bioinformatics from the College of Health Sciences. However, students from closely related degrees are also eligible to apply.
Applicants must hold bachelor’s degrees in engineering or health-related fields from recognized universities and demonstrate strong performance in their first year of Master’s studies.
Candidates must choose from preselected research projects and develop Master’s concept proposals based on these topics.
The application package must include certified academic documents, two reference letters, a motivation statement limited to 500 words, and a curriculum vitae not exceeding four pages, all submitted as a single PDF file.
Interested candidates have until May 30th, 2025, to submit applications to sightproject2022@gmail.com with the subject line “Scholarship MSc Application 2025.”
Interviews are scheduled for 6th June, 2025, with notifications by June 13, 2025. For clarifications, contact Ms. Basemera Joanittah at 0701925906/0774572385 or birungijoanah@gmail.com.
