In a letter written by Prof. Christopher Mbazira, the Ag. Principal of the School of Law at Makerere University indicated that his Office had on December 27, 2021 received a petition from the student leadership regarding students’ safety.
That the essence of the Petition was to draw the attention of the School Administration to the increasing number of students who have tested positive for COVID-19.
Prof Mbazira further noted that some test results of the affected students had been shared and that it had also been established that some lecturers at the School had also tested positive.
Accordingly, in a bid to deliberate on the petition, the School held a Special Examiners Board via zoom. Following extensive deliberations, the board decided among other considerations, to hold the end of semester exams virtually, contrary to the initial plan to hold them physically.
This has created a sense of relief at the school of law, especially because the students had raised concerns on the health hazard that would materialize from continuing with the physical examinations as earlier planned.
