A team of over 100 people from Makerere University community is set to travel to Bududa to aid the survivors of the horrific Bukalasi landslide that claimed over 44 lives.
The Chairperson of the Makerere University Academic Staff Association, Dr. Deus Kamunyu Muhwezi while addressing Journalists on Monday described the team as consisting of both students and staff that will go to Bududa and distribute relief items to the victims.
The team has so far rallied over 50,000 people who are ready to contribute to the victims in Bududa. These have so far made contributions in terms of food items such as rice, cassava, sugar, and many other items. Dr. Kamunyu advised those with money to convert it into items as money is hard to handle.
“We have put up a collection centre for all items with a full-time volunteer ready to collect and register them upon donation. The items can be delivered between 10 and 5 O’clock every day,” said the outspoken MUASA chairperson.
The drive has also seen the appointment of College Representatives who will gather items in their respective colleges and drop them off at the main collections centre.
This campaign comes after multiple companies and government officials have made donations of relief items to the survivors of the disastrous Bududa landslides.
President Museveni also visited the affected area on Sunday and promised 5 million shillings to each of the affected families.
