Makerere university is commemorating 100 years of existence in series of events that start today 25th November 2021 at the university’s freedom square. The launch of the centennial celebrations will be held both physically and virtually via zoom starting at 10:30AM East African time.
The launch is will be a ribbon cutter for a fundraising drive for the celebration of Makerere university’s 100th anniversary.
Established in 1922, Makerere university remains Uganda’s leading premier University and one of the leading universities in Africa a reason good enough for Makerereans to pride in.
Brief history.
In 1922, Sir Robert Coryndon’s dream of having an African technical institute came to life as Makerere came into existence only to be kown as Uganda Technical College -a 14 students college offering carpentry, building and mechanics at the time.
In 1935 Uganda Technical College became a centre of Higher education in East Africa and began to offer post school certificate courses in the years that came next in line.
In 1970, Makerere university became a national university in Uganda having gained autonomy from the University of London.
