Agapito Akampurira, a third year Journalism and Communication student at Makerere has vowed to bind himself in writing life-changing literary works after publishing his first book.
Akampurira told Campus Bee during a follow up conversation on his book, ‘The Betrayed Village’ after it garnered attention of many bookworms on Amazon.
“In the next few years, I would like to change lives of at least a million readers. How? By dedicating myself to write on the topics which concern public. I want to write about health, politics, social life and education.” The proud author revealed.
Akampurira said the three months effort which has culminated into a must-read moral book was motivated by Kenyan author, Ngugi wa Thiong’o who started writing while at Makerere university:
“Ngugi inspired me. He wrote his book ‘Weep Not, Child’ when he was still a student at Makerere University. Since then he has published lots of great work,” Akampurira stated.
The Betrayed Village, which recently became talk of the hill, is a fictitious tragic novella which tells the story of two loving school girls: Tayebwa and Kulu who at first embark on a true academic dream of becoming great women.
Marred by life in their newly joined Busibo Girls School, Tayebwa is blinded by the begotten freedom in bars; her eyes are only opened to reality when she contracts HIV/AIDS. Unable to withstand the mess, she ends her life.
Meanwhile for Kulu, afraid of the solo life and criticisms from the village folks, the fear steers her to another tragic loss. Once again, Kataka future dwindles under the glimpse of illicit decisions. The prestigious village is betrayed.
