Omondi Micheal, 21, a student of Business Administration at Makerere University was abducted by police flying squad about a month ago at the Busia border as he returned from his Kenyan home.
According to family members, Omondi is being detained at the notorious Nalufenya torture chamber because he is one of the suspects involved in the killing of the fallen Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Kaweesi (RIP). Police allege that Omondi drove the assailants who murdered AIGP Kaweesi regardless of the fact that the first police statement indicated that the killers were riding motorcycles.
“I know there are people in Nalufenya but I don’t know their names,” Asan Kasingye the Police spokesperson said when we asked him if he knew that Omondi was being held at Nalufenya, “why is he being held at Nalufenya,” he asked.
When we told the Police Spokesperson that Omondi had been held without being charged or taken to court for over a month and that he is merely a 23 year old MUK student, he said “everyone in Nalufenya will be taken to court, and I didn’t know that there was a student in Nalufenya but he will be taken to court.”
Family members cry out
“We have been chasing up and down with our lawyer. At Nalufenya, they refused to allow us to see him at first. We were always going to Naguru struggling to get permission and by last week they just kept telling us its classified but assured us that they are not torturing him” Omondi’s sister, Awino Mariam told Campus Bee. She added that “but today Kayihura’s PA after the Observer story admitted that basically the police has failed to align the evidence to support the case so we were advised to write again to the Inspector General Of Police (IGP) asking to see him (Omondi).”
His family and friends are worried to death and each passing day, all hope keeps fading away. #JusticeForOmondi, a social media campaign has been started by friends in a bid to see that at least, Omondi is taken to court or set free.
