Makerere University Fourth year Computer Engineering student has unveiled an online shopping application after a year’s relentless effort.
Inspired by renown online shopping apps like Jumia, Alibaba, KiKUU, JiJi that have revolutionized online business, Eteku Moses has since Feb 2020 assembled and prototyped to come up with the “CatchyShop” application, that is as catchy as its name suggests. The app is currently available on Google Playtore; https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.shamostechnologies.catchyshop
“I derived the name CatchyShop from the word catchy, or something handy. The app has very unique features, with beautiful visual elements that strike one’s eyes upon opening the app. I have been doing this for a long time so as to get something unique and better than the existing online business shops.” Eteku said.
The application’s initial target is University students, with at least 10 Universities in the app’s pool. Future developments are poised to cater for all age groups and locations in the country.
“The app is unique because it has provision of real-time chatting with the sellers/buyers, the student /buyer can also follow some specific sellers, he/she can receive offers, as well as auction the products. There is also a provision of sharing the posted product using a link to other students or buyers who are either on Facebook or WhatsApp.” he added.
Eteku has previously worked on several web applications for different companies. He designed the website voting site for MasterCard Scholars at Makerere in their previous two elections. Together with fellow students, he developed the voting website for the just concluded Makerere University Guild elections. Eteku has developed several social media and transport applications.
“Because the world has gone digital, I decided to specialize in internet entrepreneurship. I have many more applications and projects on my laptop and am looking forward to selling them after graduating. The most significant is the CatchyShop which has been successfully approved on Play Store by google” he added.
Apparently, internet entrepreneurship is the latest and strongest form of technology across the globe and it prestigiously harbors some of the richest people in the world like Jeff Bezos, the CEO and founder of Amazon, Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook cofounder and CEO, Larry Ellison, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, all leaning on internet driven businesses.
