Well, we all know that Makerere University closed off approximately a week ago and as some students where excited to finally be done with a somewhat daunting semester thus couldn’t wait to go back to their homes or start internship, some others were not bothered at all- it seems their homes are a prison of sorts.
Many Makerere University students have refused to leave their hostels and different university halls as many are pretending to be on recess. Regardless of the fact that water and electricity have been switched off in these various residences, many students, male and female have still refused to vacate the premises.
“I don’t have so much freedom at home so I am not that excited to go back to that black hole. I will stay here a week then think of going back,” shares Jovitah a finalist student of Psychology at Makerere University.
All these students do, is drink cheap alcohol, watch movies, eat rolex, and have all sorts of fun in general. “I don’t care about the fact that I haven’t taken a shower in about two days, I am a guy anyways. All I do, is drink, sleep, and treat my girl right under the sheets,” shared Maurice a resident of Lumumba Hall.
It’s absurd that there are people who are utterly afraid of going home because of the lack of freedom, privacy that prevails in many homes. Is it time that we called out our parents and guardians against such unwarranted and unneeded protectionism?
