A section of Makerere university students have decried the institution’s forthcoming physical examinations slated for January 3rd 2022
Makerere university students are meant to do their end of semester two academic year 2020/2021 examinations physically.
Some students, who didn’t enjoy the bite off their Christmas chicken due to exam anxiety, have expressed their discontent with the mode of this semester’s examinations.
These (students) have cited the surging covid-19 cases that have been birthed by the new Omicron variant as reason good enough for the university administration to think otherwise as far as physical exams are concerned.
Students allege that some of their colleagues have tested positive for covid-19 and thus having physical examinations will put their lives at risk.
The students have therefore advised the university to embrace online examinations like the case was for the previous semester (semester one, academic year 2020/2021).
Legal scholars from Makerere Law School have also petition their leaders to aid in extending their plea farther to VC Barnabas Nawangwe’s administration.
“Depending on the current omicron variant situation in the country and the risk it pauses to every stake holder, it’s only prudent that an online mode of assessment being one of those approved by the university council be adopted in this semester’s examinations”. the legal scholars argued.
The bee, however, has come to learn that quite a number of Makerere university students refused to go home for the Christmas break in order to prepare for the forthcoming physical exams. Students preferred ‘eating’ their books to going home.
Makerere university students are now only praying that President Museveni, who is meant to address the country on 31st December 2021, bails them out like he did the previous semester.
