Contrary to the previously released list of Makerere students admitted on master card scholarship program, the University has officially communicated that the scholarship has been scrapped for the academic year 2018/2019.
“We inform the general public that recruitment of Scholars to The MasterCard Foundation Scholars’ Programme for Academic year 2018/2019 has been suspended. Makerere University informs the general public to disregard any advertisements that had been made about the same earlier. Any inconveniences caused are highly regretted,” a post on the University’s official Facebook page reads.
It is not yet clear why this scholarship program was scrapped off on the last minute even after a number of students had already applied to benefit from this program.
Makerere University entered a partnership with The MasterCard Foundation to offer scholarships to 1,000 academically bright but economically disadvantaged youth from Africa to study at Makerere University from 2013 to 2023. This project was worth US $ 20,989,965.15 implemented at Makerere University with the aim of developing the next generation of African Leaders.
