The management of Makerere University has threatened to dismiss over 70 staff members due to routine absenteeism from their duties.
This was revealed by a letter from the Vice-Chancellor dated 18th February 2022 where he indicated that several members of staff both teaching and non-teaching were not found in their respective offices during official working hours.
According to Makerere University Vice-Chancellor Professor Barnabas Nawangwe, the university management has received several complaints from different departments reporting that lecturers and those in supporting departments don’t report to their duties on some days.
Prof Nawangwe revealed that the members who are under this category have been given time to explain the cause and if found guilty, they will be subjected to the disciplinary committee for further investigation.
