News coming from trusted sources are indicating that an outdoor advertising company, Prime Media Network Limited, has entered an agreement with Makerere University where the two parties will benefit from each other.
Makerere University will be receiving Shs 150 million annually for the next five years in exchange for advertising space at the Kampala main campus.
Prime Media signed a contract with Makerere for the beautification and maintenance of selected areas at the main campus and these include freedom square, Main library, halls of residence, 7 round abouts among others.This will be done by carrying out regular maintenance such as grass cutting, sweeping, collecting and disposing off cut grass, and planting flowers.
In that contract, Prime Media is also expected to install power and maintain 150 street lights, provide 60 garden benches and 120 litter bins, as well as provide educational and directional signage.
According to the deal, the advertising company will be required to place solar charging stations with Wi-fi zones and student sitting shades in reading areas, meet utility costs for water and power for the duration of the contract, install advertising tools and billboards in line with values and objectives of the institution.
Companies and institutions will pay Prime Media to have their brands visible at the university, in a deal that will earn the company some income.
Brutus Kagingo, the executive director of the advertising agency says, they are about to complete the upgrading and beautification of the Freedom Square into a modern 21st-century green space.
“Installation of metallic guardrail along the Freedom Square commenced in July and 80 per cent is already completed. We have already embarked on landscaping works, installation of Wi-fi infrastructure as well as installation of LED lights and garden benches with sitting shades,” says Kagingo.
The five-year contract, commenced on October 1, 2019, and it will come to its end in October 2024.
