Makerere University management has promised to seek judicial remedies following the breach of the contract executed between Makerere University and Team Uniform limited on 20th February 2017 under contract reference number MAK/SPLS/2015-16/00030 where the latter was to supply graduation gowns, caps and hoods to the former.
The university management has reached this decisive point because of the delay in delivery of the attire where it’s now three days to the 70th graduation ceremony but the university has received less than what is required for the function.
In a letter from the University Secretary of Makerere University to the director of Team uniform Limited, Mr. Steven Kasumba, it is indicated that the university has so far received 6383 gowns, 900 caps and 6792 hoods which were delivered in different installments where some of them were imported from China without the university’s consent yet section 22.1 of the procurement contract requires the provider to notify the procuring and disposing entity in case of any sub-contracts under the contract.
The same letter clarifies that Makerere as a procuring and disposing entity has neither received nor approved the extension of the delivery time as required by section 35 of the procurement contract.
The university management has also come up to say that the continued delay in the supply of the gowns to the would-be recipients has raised unnecessary concerns from the university council, management and the entire public and it has caused a lot of uncalled for stress, tension and anxiety from the graduands, their parents and guardians.
It has therefore called upon Team Uniform Limited to deliver all the required gowns, caps and hoods without further delay or else it shall seek judicial remedies.
