Makerere University’s Vice Chancellor Professor Barnabas Nawangwe advised graduates at the Pola-lab fellowship1st cohort graduation ceremony held on Tuesday March 29th, 2022 to be keen to learn how societies function in order to build social networks and get the confidence of those they lead.
Professor Nawangwe, who was the guest of honour at the graduation ceremony noted that it takes long for one to be an effective leader as one needs to acquire experience and that if there are no attempts to equip leaders with such experiences, then leadership building becomes a much long process.
“Building an effective leader takes some time; you will have to experience how societies function, build the necessary networks and get the confidence of the people you lead to believe that you can deliver to the tasks,” VC Nawangwe said.
The 1st Pola-lab fellowship graduation ceremony saw a number of leaders such as Local councilors graduate.
The Pola-lab fellowship is an initiative by UNIFOG (University Forum on Governance) in support by Adenauer stiftung. The fellowship is run on a well developed syllabus that is aimed at uplifting leadership and governance skills among University fellows.
