Makerere University Vice Chancellor Prof Barnabas Nawangwe has recognized the effort of teams and individuals that facilitated the implementation of Academic Management Information System (ACMIS).
ACMIS was introduced last year as a substitute for the students’ database system (AIMS) with the aim of improving the stakeholders digital experience.
Prof Nawangwe hailed the Directorate for ICT Support (DICTS), a central service unit that provides expert services & guidance on ICT to students, academic and administrative units at Makerere University for the tremendous job done at implementing ACMIS.
“This is patriotism,” the VC thanked the DICTS team as he acknowledged their input.
With the successes and improvements registered with the use of ACMIS, Prof Nawangwe noted that, “Makerere can single handedly transform this country.”
Speaking at the event, DICTS Director Mugabi Samuel highlighted that ACMIS will be a comprehensive system with coordination with other state agencies.
“ACMIS is going to be fully integrated with many other government systems” Mr. Mugabi noted.
The Academic Management Information System (ACMIS) was locally developed through government support by teams from
DICTS-Makerere, COCIS, DICTS-Kyambogo University and some external participants to replace the AIMS systems whose support from government ended on the 30th June 2021.
The ACMIS system was adopted by all Vice Chancellors of Public Universities through the Vice Chancellors forum and will be directly managed by the ACMIS consortium of Public Universities.
Makerere University thus, rewarded the system’s implementers with certificates of recognition in an indoor ceremony.
