On 15th January 2020, The Community of Makerere was saddened by the death of Prof Johnson Opio Acon a Veterinary surgeon and consultant at Kampala Independent Hospital. Yesterday, he was buried at his ancestral home in Ogongo, Aloi, Alebtong district.
Prof Acon joined Makerere University in 1979 where he was hired as a special assistant in the department of Veterinary Clinical studies from then, Prof Acon has been gaining promotions to various positions like senior veterinary surgeon, Veterinary pharmacist and finally Clinical and comparative Medicine of CoVAB a position he has been holding up to the time of death.
He was described as a person who had humor and love for his University and Country. He was also a friendly person who associated with any individual regardless of his/her background. His family, friends and students thanked God for the life of Prof Acon and they appreciated his tireless effort he has been investing in to uplift his college (CoVAB) and Makerere University.
Makerere University Vice Chancellor Prof Barnabas Nawangwe described the late Prof Acon as a person who loved his job, a leader who lead by example, and also a person who liked quality work.
“He has been a well cultured Professor who exemplified quality ethics which made him a true academician . As Makerere University we thank Prof Acon for the legacy he has left behind and we are going to miss him. May his soul rest in peace” Prof Nawangwe said.
The principal of CoVAB, Prof John David Kabasa thanked Prof Acon for nurturing them and his sacrifices towards the development of CoVAB. May Prof Acon’s Soul Rest in eternal peace.
