Makerere University Vice Chancellor Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe has expressed hope for the transformation of the economy of Uganda courtesy of Makerere University, if the government invests resources in the institution.
Prof Nawangwe made the revelation while addressing the first annual public lecture of the former Bank of Uganda Governor- Prof. Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebire held at Makerere University in CTF II Auditorium, with Finance PS Ramathan Ggoobi as the keynote speaker.
“Makerere University is privileged to produce a great person who contributed to the development of country, the whole economy of this country will change drastically in a short time, like during the COVID-19 period all the advise that helped the country came from Makerere University,” Prof Nawangwe stated.
The public lecture was based on the theme, “Economic Recovery and Resilience in a post- COVID -19 world: The role of higher Education” and in presence of the family of Prof. Mutebire headed by the wife, Mrs Betty Mutebire, who praised the former BOU governor as one who loved his country and everyone regardless of their titles.
“He would welcome anyone that came his way regardless of their titles,” she said emotionally.
The two Deputy Vice Chancellors, Prof. Umar Kakumba, and Prof.Henry Alinaitwe, Mr. Innocent Don Wanyama, the Chief Executive officer of Vision Group, some of the committee members on Mak@100 and many others also attended the event.
Prof. Mutebire was the Governor Bank of Uganda, former guild president of Makerere University, member of Makerere University private sector forum and was a lumumbist during his campus days.
