Makerere University has emerged as the winning team for this year’s Rule of Law debate challenge that was organised virtually by the Uganda Law Society (ULS).
The debates attracted participation from seventeen universities and higher institutions of learning from all over the country that each presented at least 10 speakers and a student delegation of their choice to follow the debates through the different social media platforms.
Among the participating institutions included Makerere University Business School (MUBS), Gulu University, Bishop Stuart University (BSU) – Mbarara, Uganda Christian University (UCU) – MUKONO, Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU), Makerere University, Kyambogo University, Nkumba University, Kampala International University (KIU), Cavendish University, Muni University, Uganda Pentecostal University, National Teachers’ College Unyama, Team University, Busitema University, YMCA and Uganda Christian University – Kampala.
Makerere University won this year’s edition which was centered around the theme, “ENDING SEXUAL HARASSMENT IN SCHOOLS, UNIVERSITIES AND COMMUNITIES”.
When speaking to Benson Mayanja, the Speaker of the Makerere University Debate Union he said that his university fronted 4 teams (2 people in each team) of which all made it to the finals and all the 8 speakers made it to the top 10 positions.
Makerere’s Angelo Sewanonda emerged overall Best Speaker and was awarded with a certificate of merit which is to be framed and delivered to him.
