Makerere University School of Law students emerged winners of the Ugandan Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot – National competitions.
The moot was held on 4th March at Makerere University School of Law.
Participants for this year’s competition included students from Law schools of Uganda Christian University (UCU), Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) and Cavendish University.
Makerere University team was represented by Sabit Edwin, Amos Mumbere, Kevin Nakimbugwe and Victor Taremwa.
The quartet used the home advantage to defeat the UCU team in the finals and qualify for the international rounds that will be held in Washington D.C, USA next month.
It was double delight for Makerere’s Victor Taremwa who was named the best oralist of the competition.
The Philip C. Jessup is the world’s largest moot court competition, with participants from roughly 700 law schools in 100 countries and jurisdictions.
The Competition is a simulation of a fictional dispute between countries before the International Court of Justice, the judicial organ of the United Nations.
One team is allowed to participate from every eligible school. Teams prepare oral and written pleadings arguing both the applicant and respondent positions of the case.
