Professor Barnabas Nawangwe, the Vice chancellor of Makerere university has finally broken the silence on the contrary implorations by Makerere’s 87th guild president to have all students back to campus for physical lectures by February 7th, 2022.
Professor Nawangwe penned down a tweet on Sunday 6th February sending a bad taste into the mouth of Makerere’s 87th guild president Shamim Nambassa. In his tweet, VC Nawangwe accused Nambassa of deluding students to return to campus for physical lectures.
“We have noted misleading messages originating from @MakGuild leadership regarding the opening of the university. All students and stakeholders are advised that the first semester will open in a staggered manner and using blended methods of teaching and learning,” part of the tweet reads.
VC Nawangwe also shared the academic calendar for the year 2021/2022 which he says must be followed to the dot. According the calendar, Makerere university will follow a blended system of teaching with priority being given to freshers who will begin their university classes physically as the rest study online.
Makerere’s 87th guild president had tightened her laces recently in a rather tough pursuit for full reopening of the university for all students following futile peaceful negotiations with Professor Nawangwe. The former went ahead to call upon all students to return to campus for physical lectures as opposed to the institution’s blended learning schedule.
VC Nawangwe’s hard-hitting tweet comes only hours after Shamim Nambassa’s Facebook live session in which she accused Professor Nawangwe for mismanaging university affairs and called upon the rest of the country to join her in what she termed as ‘a war’ with the university’s care taker.
The Bee has learnt of a cabinet meeting by Nambassa’s government slated for Monday 7th February 2022 in which the guild leadership will give a way forward now that Professor Nawangwe has already branded theirs an evil move.
