The Uganda Young Democrats (UYD) is a Youth Wing of the opposition Democratic Party (DP) and has over the years, shaped the trajectory of both national and student politics across universities in the country. The UYD is arguably the most proactive political youth wing across Ugandan Universities.
As is its custom, the UYD Makerere Chapter recently changed its leadership in a bid to further consolidate its structural and grass-root penetration in Makerere University. The new leadership is expected to commence the wing’s activities with immediate effect, despite the fact that the university is still closed.
The new leadership is as follows; Muggaba Joel (Lumumba Hall) – Chairperson, Nambassa Shamim (Mary Stuart Hall) – Vice Chairperson, Kalule Adrian (Mitchell Hall) – Speaker, Tibainana Sharifah (Complex Hall) – Deputy Speaker, Kasasa Trevor (Nsibirwa Hall) – General Secretary, Ojambo Silas (Nkrumah Hall) – Deputy Secretary General, Ephraim Manzi (Livingstone Hall) – Finance Secretary, Barigye Innocent (Livingstone Hall) – Deputy Finance Secretary, Opio Jacob (Lumumba Hall) – Academic Secretary, Mulwanyi Nagenda Calvin (Livingstone Hall) – Deputy Academic Affairs, Namata Alice (Complex Hall) – Organisation & Mobilisation Secretary, Luggya Ivan (Mitchell Hall) – Deputy Organisation & Mobilisation Secretary, Bbosa Price (Nkrumah Hall) – Legal Advisor, Ogang Lukas (Lumumba Hall) – Deputy Legal Advisor, Nuwamanya Andrew (Mitchell Hall) – Chairperson GRC-UYD caucus, Omorok Ronald (Nsibirwa Hall) – PWDs Secretary, Nalwanga Racheal (Africa Hall) – Women Affairs Secretary, Otim Joseph (Livingstone) – Security & Protocol Secretary, Okello Moris ( Mitchell Hall) – Publicity Secretary, Wambona Martin (Mitchell Hall) – Projects Director, Bumba John Baptist (University Hall) – Social Affairs Secretary, Baagala Andrew (Nkrumah Hall) – Off-campus Affairs secretary, Arinaitwe Joan (Africa) ICT & Research Secretary, Ndugga Huzaifah (University Hall) – Deputy ICT & Research Secretary, Kisuule Dalton (Mitchell) and Kisoomose Emmanuel ( Nsibirwa) are the Chief Freshers. The new UYD Council of Elders is comprised of Okeler Opio Lo Amanu, Otuku Isaac Kwania, Kiyimba Shafik and Muhwezi Joshua Lawel.
