Makerere University students, largely Freshers, have been disappointed by the flop of the eagerly awaited freshers ball.
According to Makerere University’s 89th guild, the 2023 Freshers ball was slated for Friday October 13th, 2023, but the event only remained on paper and was never actualised.
Despite showing no signs of preparation for the freshers ball, the 89th guild kept sharing posters for the event with hope that it will come to pass.
According to an explanatory letter from the guild president Maseruka Robert, the Freshers ball didn’t happen due to interruption from security forces.
“The cancellation also follows a series of interruptions from security forces that made it close to impossible to hold the event,” the letter reads in part.
Maseruka also states that the Freshers ball has not completely been cancelled but rather postponed to a letter date that he didn’t disclose.
He further stated that ‘we want to reaffirm our commitment to have social events fully reinstated’.
Among the artists that were expected to perform at the flopped event was Fik Famaica who had already recorded a video assuring students of his presence.
Makerere University banned social events following the chaos that unfolded at the last freshers ball. Council has continued to maintain the ban despite attempts from several leaders to have it lifted.
