First lady and Minister of Education and Sports Hon. Janet Museveni has commissioned the School of Law building and the renovated Lumumba Hall.
The minister commissioned the buildings on Wednesday, December 18, 2024.
Mrs. Lorna Magara, chairperson Makerere University council commended the first lady for her support to the university.
“I extend a very warm welcome to the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports. Your presence here today Maama, is a testament of your unwavering and steadfast support for Makerere University and highlights the tangible impact of your leadership in advancing Uganda’s education sector, particularly at Makerere University,” Mrs Magara said.

Makerere University vice chancellor Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe said Makerere has greatly transformed since the appointment of Janet Museveni as minister of Education.
“From the time you (Janet Museveni) took over the office of minister of Education Makerere University in particular has transformed tremendously. Most notable is the infrastructure revolution at Makerere,” Prof. Nawangwe noted.
The minister also laid a foundation stone for the construction of the new building of the School of Graduate Studies. Prof. Nawangwe said the building was donated by Mr. Hasmukh Patel as a gift during the institution’s 100th anniversary.
“We would like to offer, our sincere gratitude to Mr. Hasmukh Patel who donated a building to Makerere University as a gift on our 100th anniversary,” Prof. Nawangwe said.
The new school of graduate studies and research centre will have lecture and seminar rooms, a conference hall, innovation spaces, PhD student rooms, computer and other laboratories, a restaurant, staff offices and other facilities, according to VC Nawangwe.
