Prof. Patrick Mangeni has officially bowed out of the office of Dean School of Liberal and Performing Arts (SLPA) after eight years of service.
Mangeni, known to many for his intellectual prowess in the performing arts and his well kempt long hair, handed over office to Dr. Pamela Khanakwa.
Mangeni handed over the office of Dean SLPA to Pamela in a ceremony presided over by the deputy principal Associate Professor Eric Awich Ochen on Tuesday.
Pamela Khanakwa, PhD, becomes the second female Dean of SLPA after Dr Ruth Mukama.
In his speech, Prof Mangeni noted that SLPA is one of the schools that is gender sensitive with the biggest number of female leaders at department level.
“A lady coming into this office through the affirmation of the school itself, I take that as a significant stage. In the entire college, the school has the biggest number of female leaders both at the level of departments and representation in other areas,” he said.
Mangeni further prided in the achievements he has registered as Dean such as registering the highest graduate completion rate (2016 – 2020), having the highest number of graduate students and contributed the highest PhDs at the college of Humanities.
The new Dean Dr. Pamela Khanakwa thanked Mangeni for mentoring her and preparing her psychologically for her new role.
“I thank the outgoing dean for preparing me psychologically. I am counting on your support and I am sure that all shall be well taking the message that it takes team work to succeed. I pledge to work with all of you,”she said.
Dr. Pamela further expressed her excitement for her new role and urged all staff members to work with her for the good of SLPA.
