Makerere University is currently doing phased renovation of halls of residences which started with Lumumba Hall.
Lumumba Hall is set to be opened at the start of the next academic year following completion of renovation. The hall is expected to house Marystuart Hall residents as renovation at Marystuart begins.
The Bee also learnt that Lumumba hall is likely to be turned into a girls hall even when renovation of Marystuart is complete.
The Dean of students Mrs. Winifred Kabumbuli has informed Marystuart residents to carry all their property with them as they head back home for holiday because the hall will be closed for renovation.
“In preparation for this renovation, please ensure that you take all your belongings with you as you leave for the holidays,” her letter reads in part.
“Accordingly, new accommodation arrangements will be communicated in due course,” she adds.
The renovation of Marystuart Hall will commence as soon as students exit the hall this week as they go in for the holiday. The renovation will continue into the next academic year.
