Makerere Universty students and graduates in the field of veterinary medicine face being blocked by the Uganda Veterinary Board (UVB) over sub-standard learning & training facilities at the institution.
With a pending move to suspend registration of the academicians, students are left hovered over by a cloud of uncertainty of employment and practicing opportunities upon completion of their studies.
The University Vice Chancellor – Prof Barnabas Nawangwe recently acknowledged the development further expressing worry that, in the event the move is taken, students that are passed out from the institution may not be able to practice their profession in the country.
“The board threatened to block our students on the grounds that our facilities are not adequate enough. Of course we have many more students than we had several years back, and the facilities in their opinion aren’t adequate,” he said.
Students have expressed dismay with the UVB citing conflicting interests owing to the fact that the board includes lecturers of veterinary from Makerere.
