The moot team from Makerere University Law School (MAK) was declared the winner of the 4th Annual National Inter – University Constitutional Law Moot Court Competitions that took place at Kampala International University (KIU) on Friday.
The moot was organized by CEHURD (Centre for Health Research and Development) under the theme “Litigating the right to health.” MAK went against a team from Uganda Christian University (UCU), Kampala Campus in the final rounds where it emerged the winner.
12 teams from different universities some of which included UCU Kampala and Main Campus, KIU, MAK, Cavendish University, Islamic University in Uganda, took part in 2 preliminary rounds in the morning from which 4 teams qualified for the Semi – final rounds. The host team (KIU) mooted against MAK, while both two campuses of UCU litigated the right to health together, until the teams for the final rounds were chosen.
This is yet another moot court competition that the university is winning in the same month. At the start of October, 6th, MAK was crowned the winner of the International Humanitarian Law (IHL) moot that took place at Hotel Africana.
The MAK team produced the best memorial at the competition and also had the best oralist Patrick Ngasirwa Murungi. Patrick together with Joel Roy Mucunguzi and Ruth Muhawe represented MAK, while Kajja Timothy, Alex Sensikombi and Rukundo Sarah represented UCU Kampala campus.
Both teams were given medals, and the winning team also received offers of internship with CEHURD Uganda. The CEHURD Moot last year took place at UCU Mukono and the hosts emerged the winner.
