At the first ever Association of Uganda University Sports (AUUS) Mind Games tournament that was held at Makerere University from 2nd to 3rd June, a number of students displayed great talent, giving a big opportunity to the ultimate winners to represent the country at the global stage.
The two day’s mind game championship had two games—Chess and Bridge—bringing competing students from Makerere University, Kyambogo, ISBAT, Kabale, Victoria, Ndejje and Makerere University Business School (MUBS).
While Joan Ahereza qualified to represent Uganda in the Chess category, Bua Isaac, a fourth year Biomedical Engineering student who also, served as the guild minister for Students affairs in the 86th guild won gold in the Bridge competitions where he is to compete at the global level in the same.
The World Championship dubbed FISU (Federation Internationale du Sport Universitaire) World University Mind Sports Championship will be held in Antwerp, Belgium from 12th to 17th September 2022.
Makerere University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Bernabus Nawangwe couldn’t hide the excitement as he took to his socials to congratulate Bua and wish him success at the World Championships..
“Thanks so much Prof. Nawangwe! So glad for the humble wishes. I’m happy to represent Makerere and my country Uganda for the world final and hope to win the next Gold,” Bua tweeted.
The bridge game consists of a 52 card deck which is played by four people—two against two partners— to determine the winner with the objective of winning as many games to 100 as possible .
The game is believed to be a challenging game that helps to keep the brain sharp as well as improve the social skills due to the tricks involved and mind alertness during play.
