It is common knowledge that the best prevention measure against COVID-19 is isolation. The government, ever since the pandemic broke out has gazetted over 17 places to be used as isolation centres for those undergoing mandatory quarantine in a bid to combat the escalating cases.
The places of isolation are so far located around Kampala and Entebbe Municipality. These places, according to the ministry of health, were identified after an assessment to guarantee everyone’s safety regardless of their social status.
Ms Robinah Nabbanja, the State minister of Health, further comfirmed to the press that the isolation centres include hotels, university hostels and lodges. She declined, however, to name the places since their owners had expressed fear of losing customers.
We have ever established that Kikoni based, Douglas Villa Hostel is one of the quarantine centres and some 100 or more suspected COVID-19 carriers are staying at the hostel. The hostel shuttle is what they use to report to Mulago for regular check ups and tests.
We applaud the hostel management for coming in to rescue the nation in such trying times. COVID-19 is a deadly respiratory disease that has claimed close to 20,000 people world wide. We urge campusers to follow Ministry of Health guidelines, stay at home and wash their hands regularly. Together, we shall overcome the pandemic.
