Makerere University’s newly elected leaders that are awaiting oath have fronted the restoration of evicted businesses and hall renovation in their tenure.
The 90th guild leaders had a ‘manifesto harmonisation’ engagement with their guild president elect Lubega Vincent Nsamba to see how best they can jointly serve the interests of the students.
Following the discussion, the guild president elect said the leadership had agreed on a number of issues, and notable of these is hall renovation and restoration of evicted businesses.
Other issues agreed upon include harmonisation of the guild statute and increased access to wife and safe clean water in halls.
However, the 90th guild president elect is still faced with a pending petition challenging his victory. The petition is expected to be heard this week.
If the verdict is in his favour, Lubega Nsamba will be sworn in as Makerere University’s 90th guild president next week.
Nsamba’s tenure begins at a time when students are struggling to get certain services as a result of eviction of ‘illegal’ business on campus.
Whereas Nsamba and other leaders have this issue at heart, only time can tell if the new leadership will restore the evicted businesses.
