The Director of the Makerere Institute for Social Reasearch (MISR) Professor Mahmood Mamdani has been appointed a member of the Advisory Board of the United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF).
At the time of his appointment he has also been serving as the Herbert-Lehman Professor of Government at the School of International and Public Affairs, Columbia University as well as the Professor of Anthropology, Political Science and African studies, also at Columba University.
Prof. Mamdani is a Ugandan (of Indian origin) academic, political commentator and author who has written and made a number of books and publications respectively. He has authored among others, Politics and Class Formation in Uganda(1973) and Academic Freedom in Africa (1994).
He is the 20th Director of MISR, a position he has held since June 2010.
The Vice Chancellor of Makerere University Professor Barnabas Nawangwe congratulated him and said, “Makerere continues to provide leadership at all levels globally, Congratulations!”
