Forget the legendary Mohamad Ali v Joe Fraser bout, we have a new contender for boxing match of the millenium: Team Opoya v Team Mwine.
Residents at Dag Graduates Hostel were on Sunday 1st March 2015 treated to what could potentially be the fight of the year when supporters from two rival Makerere University Guild Presidential elections camps took matters into their own fists. It is alleged that supporters of Mwine’s faction squarely and firmly took political matters into the history books of boxing when they got physical and traded knock-out punches with supporters from Team Opoya’s camp over “fundamental ideological differences”.
This was at the Muk Guild Presidential Elections rally that was organised at Douglas Villas where the eight contestants in the guild race were given a platform to popularise their manifesto among the electorate.
Things got out of hand when supporters from the two said rival camps broke out into a verbal fight with each camp hurling insults and disses at the other. The verbal abuses degenerated into a full-blown fight.
Concerned onlookers intimated to Campusbee that the two rival camps got into a heated argument as each one of them sought to silence the propaganda from the other during a rally that took place at the hostel. It was after they obviously failed to come to a mutual agreement that they decided to invoke their adrenaline rights, hence the fight.
Eye-witnesses say that no one was seriously hurt but all the same some of the involved students came out with swollen faces, bruised egos and a palpable dent in their self-esteem.
