Ever since Professor Sandy Stevens Tickodri Togboa was appointed head of The Vehicle Design Project 2007 in the former faculty of engineering, the faculty has stopped at nothing other than creating wondrous innovations.
The idea of the solar bus was developed after KMC’S (Kiira Motors Company) second edition of the KIIRA EV car dubbed KIIRA EV PROOF OF CONCEPT.
The 30 seater solar powered bus has been delayed by logistical challenges according to Paul Isaac Musasizi the project’s main supervisor. The Normal fuel looka like coach has a magnificent shape coupled with luxurious creamy seats in the passenger lounge which brings out the touch of comfort.
It’s only been designed to carry 30 passengers because more passengers would mean more load which would exert more pressure on the battery packs. This brings us to the real unique characters of this coach manufactured under ‘The Fuel Efficient Solutions For Africa Project’. Kayoola Ev Solar Bus is fully electric with batteries in its Body belly and a solar panel on its roof top to supplement power. Once fully charged, it moves for 80-100km without recharging. it has two batteries that create backup. As the bus is moving, one is active and the other is always charging.
KMC after its different inventions has scooped itself manufacturing gigs that include acquiring a lease for their base at kagogwa village in Jinja where they’ll produce cars using high technology equipment. Its also to partner with different established international vehicle agencies for learning purposes and technological capability advancement. With this we hope to read the next headline as “Mak Aircraft to take first flight” in the next few years.
Kayoola Ev Bus is set to be unveiled on February 16th at serena hotel as we keep our eyes open for the next mind blowing invention from KMC.
