United Social Ventures and the Resilient Africa Network (RAN) a tech innovation hub of the Makerere University School of Public Health have partnered to start what they have termed as a virtual intern-preneurship for interested students in as one of the student engagement features in light of COVID-19.
United Social Ventures came to be as a result of a friendship that was formed in early 2010 between two soon-to-be-freshers. One went to New College, Oxford and the other to Makerere University. The two freshers kept in contact over social media and at the end of their first term, New College students wanted to create an international link. Makerere was suggested. A letter was sent. And a partnership formed. And like the English say, the rest is history.
The virtual intern-preneurship, according to information this website has obtained from Ms Harriet Adong, the Director of Communications at RAN, is for students to spend 6 weeks either going through a design and ideation process to co-found a new start-up or build and grow their start-up with a comprehensive strategic planning process.
Interested individuals for the Design and Ideation programme are encouraged to apply online here or visit the website of United Social Ventures for details.
“Both streams will receive approximately 30 hours of webinars remotely (2 to 3 sessions per week) as well as 5 hours of one-to-one coaching for each team. The rest of students’ time will be spent collaborating with their team and conducting research and testing to develop an innovative new product or service.” Ms Adong told Campus Bee.
The organisers have specified that a data allowance will be provided to all participants to enable them wade through the waters successfully.
“The deadline for applications is close of Business on Friday July 31, 2020.” Ms Adong added.
