Former Makerere University Dean of the Commerce Faulty, Professor Dr. Arthur Sserwanga was yesterday inaugurated as Muteesa 1 Royal University’s first substantive vice chancellor by Buganda kingdom king and university’s chancellor, his highness Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II. The professor was welcomed with happy arms though is now startled by the overwhelming demands already placed before him by the student community – tasking him as the right man to address their family problems.
It comes as no surprise that this university has no a proved operational licence. Therefore worrying many students that their certificates and degrees attained from this university may be fortified in future as they aren’t yet recognised by the National Council of Higher Education. The student body believes that their new vice chancellor will render a solution to this worrying problem by securing a university charter for the campus.
Students have raised claims about their discomfort arising from the very poor sanitation around the campus ranging from the compound to the toilets. Plus the ill painted aging builders that of coarse relate this campus to a museum; on slim occasions attracting doses of tourists.
The lack of instructional material like chalk, boards and lecture rooms have to been addressed. Despite previous student’s effort to evoke their needs through strikes, the previous admin has always kept a deaf ear. But with the arrival of professor Sserwanga, the students hope their needs will be catered for.
Bagaya Rhona a third year student of accounting at the university urges the new administration under the vice chancellor to try improving the standard and quality of education of the university by incorporating science coarses into their curriculum.
Dr Arthur may have been inaugurated as the vice chancellor to this university but surely has a pile of needs to provide for. Its way past his job specification, his now an acting father to this student community.
