A section of Ugandan youth stagged protests on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, in which they expressed their grievances against the leadership at parliament.
The March to parliament protests were against the corruption scandals at parliament and in Uganda at large.
Several protestors were arrested among them being former student leaders and students at different institutions of learning. Below are some of the faces that participated in the Tuesday protests.
Papa Were Salim.
Salim Were was the 85th guild president of Makerere University. He played a pivotal role in the 2018 fees must fall protests at Makerere University.
Were is among the protestors that have been remanded to Luzira prison over the Tuesday protests.
Ivan Ssempijja
Ssempijja Ivan served as the 86th guild president of Makerere University. He led protests calling for the opening of institutions of learning during the COVID-19 lockdown. Ssempijja was arrested on Tuesday and remanded to Luzira prison.
Ezra Byakutangaza
Byakutangaza served as the 85th guild speaker at Makerere University and 31st president of Uganda National Students Association. He was arrested on Tuesday and detained at Central Police Station.
Bruno Kamoga
Kamoga was the 25th guild president at Makerere University Business School (MUBS). He was arrested on Tuesday and remanded to Luzira prison.
Musiri David
Musiri serves as the head of institutions of the National Unity Platform (NUP). He has been actively involved in students protests at Makerere University where he will be graduating early next year. He was arrested on Tuesday and remanded to Luzira prison.
Robert Maseruka
Maseruka served as the 89th guild president at Makerere University. He was arrested on Tuesday evening at Buganda Road court and detained at CPS.
These are part of other protestors who are being accused of being a common nuisance. The Tuesday protests were stagged as a call for the resignation of speaker of parliament Anita Among and all MPs involved in corruption scandals.
