The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has interdicted Masaka High Court Deputy Registrar, Cissy Mudhasi who on unclear grounds, issued a garnishee order requiring Makerere University to pay 3.5 billion UGX to Ram Engineering Company Limited for services rendered.
Upon a challenge put up by Makerere University on the order, Masaka High Court Jugde, Nakintu Nkwaka issued an interim order stating an execution in which the university was going to be scammed of its money.
“They said they don’t know about the company but the court had ordered funds to be removed from one of Makerere University’s Bank accounts and pay to that company. So, the judiciary advised the University to go back to court and seek an injunction” said Solomon Muyita, the Judiciary spokesperson
According to Muyita, besides the scandal, the registrar has other cases regarding her misconduct thus the interdiction by the JSC.
The judiciary is also uncertain how Makerere University cases landed into the Masaka High Court .
“The court in Masaka would ordinarily handle cases from that area and there is a High Court in Kampala which would handle cases in and around Kampala. But we shall investigate how this matter ended up in Masaka” Muyita said.
In a Facebook post, the University Vice Chancellor, Prof Barnabas Nawangwe applauded the Judicial officers for their quick intervention in intercepting the fraud.
