The strike at Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) has entered into day two as they protest against the new retake policy.
The bitter students fled the university with charts and tree branches to express their bitterness. They have accused the university management of introducing a costly retake policy. The new policy requires a student to pay Shs200,000 in retake fees if one fails two papers.
The students argue that prior to the policy, a student that failed an exam was required to sit a supplementary paper at no cost and a retake was only issued after that student failed a supplementary paper.
The management however wants the policy phased out and retakes be issued as it is in other universities.
“We want the retake at a Rolex price,” one student uttered.
The students also accuse the administration of failing to solve the problem of poor toilet facilities saying they are in a worrying state.
“The toilets are too ugly. They are flooded with dirty water,” one student exclaimed
Police has been deployed in the University premises to maintain order there
