Meet the new dynamic, student centered, approachable, charming yet resilient Guild president of Gulu University. “It’s not about how many times you fall but what you do when you fall”, this slogan defines his tireless efforts to reach the highest office.
His political journey started way back as hardworking young man so passionate about students’ welfare through his life. At young age, he held protectorate roles up to high where he was chairperson of student’s council in Lwamata SS and Savior High schools in Kiboga district. He has been fighting for the rights of students since time immemorial and still offers great sacrifice to see smile on every student and colleagues. This is just a glimpse of the Gulu Guild president Elect, Mr Mbaziira Daniel.
He stood as Guild Representative in his first year of medical school defying the old traditions and massively won to secure slot in guild council where he also served as deputy speaker at such an early political career. In his second year, he stood with Mr. Mukembo Robert-the former Guild President, in primary elections organized by faculty of medicine where he missed the chance. He humbly submitted despite the chance to go against faculty decision and stood as GRC, won and went back to guild where he became Senate representative in the Guild Government of 2016/17. “We have not lost but our win has been postponed,” these were the strong words.
In his third year, he stood for Gulu Guild President and missed the opportunity but devoted this year to student based advocacy. He was vocal in fight of “TOGIKWATAKO CAMPAIGN”, where he believed that every Ugandan must do something, however small, for the good of his country. He fought for students who were either being maliced by administration or treated unfairly by administration and served at different local and national associations like Federation of Uganda Medical Association etc. Under his movement-THE REAVAMP, he mobilized students to do charity work at University which, unfortunately, was maliciously blocked by administration.
His landslide victory in the just concluded elections, is sign of hope that he will surely revamp the Guild. This is surely victory for the jubilant students who still celebrate it and every student who believes In student-based leadership.
