Gulu University is right now covered with ululations after the announcement of Mbaziira Daniel(people’s president) as the winner of this year’s guild elections that have just happened today.
The medic in making has won with overwhelming victory turning heads and leaving many in awe. Mbaziira who ran under the slogan “Revamping the guild” has emerged victorious with 1239 votes (62.261%)giving a difference to his most competitive opponent Mr. Onono James who managed to secure 490 votes. Other participants included; Noowe Johnson 201 votes, Alima Joyce Reeni 37 votes, Bithum Eric Opondo 20votes and lastly Nyeko Wilfred 03 votes.
The race has had its ups and downs starting with the delay of the entire electoral process to last weekend’s postponement and furthermore there were some disorganisations today but despite all this not even the rain showers that blessed the evening could deter students from protecting their votes.
It is to be remembered that this has been Daniel’s third attempt to secure the prestigious position after a series of failures the most outstanding being the loss of last year’s election to the incumbent guild president. In 2016, he lost a primary election in pursuit for Guild presidency to Mukembo Robert at Medical school. This gem surely never gives up.
He now will face his electorates’ biggest fear, the Dean of Students Mr. Mpora Christopher. For years now, there has been a lot of tension between these two as they both have strong character and often have contradicting opinions. “Am so happy for Daniel and I Know he will be able to work with Mpora. Politics is over now it’s time for action and am sure he will play his cards safe,” said one Twesiime Derrick a strong revamper.
