Mbio za Mungu, a new fashion house by Makerere’s Ethan Kaweesi is on the rise and setting new trend for Uganda’s fashion industry.
Mbio za Mungu (translated as “God’s Race” in Swahili) isn’t just another fashion house – it’s a dream in the making, a vision fuelled by passion and a commitment to creating something extraordinary.
Ethan Kaweesi, the proprietor and a law student at Makerere University shares the fashion house’s journey and future aspirations.
He says the inception of Mbio za Mungu was driven by a deep appreciation for artistic expression and a desire to contribute positively to the fashion landscape. The long-held dream started manifesting during the COVID 19 period in 2020 with a few sketches, endless brainstorming sessions, and the invaluable support of friends and family.
What started as a humble collection of ideas has blossomed into a fashion house that aims to redefine style, quality, and innovation.

The house’s vision extends far beyond the stitching and fabrics as it aspires to be a brand that represents more than just clothing.
The designs are infused with elements of Ugandan culture, modern aesthetics, and a touch of international flair. The house believes that clothing has the power to empower, uplift, and connect people across borders.
While pursuing a bachelor’s degree in law at Makerere University, one might wonder how fashion found its place in Kaweesi’s journey.
Kaweesi believes that pursuing diverse passions can enrich one’s perspective and creativity. He has learnt (from law school) the importance of structure and attention to detail, qualities that seamlessly translate into the world of fashion.
Mbio za Mungu is a testament to the harmonious coexistence of seemingly different fields.
The house aims not merely at being a fashion house, but becoming a cultural phenomenon that encapsulates the essence of Africa’s style and spirit. Ethan envisions collaborations with both local and international artisans, partnerships with sustainable initiatives, and a presence that extends beyond borders.

Mbio za Mungu is not just a brand; it’s a movement that celebrates authenticity, creativity, and community and is a testimony to the power of telling stories and the potential of combining passion with dedication.
