The Ministry of Health has announced the commencement of the medical internship program for the year 2024/2025.
In recent years, medical interns’ deployment has often been an issue that requires national attention, and in a bid to avoid a associated clashes, the authorities have outlined procedures for better service delivery.
The deployment is crucial for integrating medical interns into the healthcare system, providing them with hands-on experience in various medical fields.
According to the Ministry’s General Notice, all prospective medical interns are required to apply for Temporary Registration with their respective professional councils by July 5th, 2024.
This step is essential for ensuring that all interns are officially recognized and can legally practice during their internship period.
Importantly, the Ministry has clarified that applications will not be received at the Health Headquarters. Instead, the process is decentralized to make it more efficient and accessible for all parties involved.
Dr. Henry G. Mwebesa, the Director General of Health Services, emphasized that the ministry aims to have the internship program for the 2024/2025 cohort commence by August 1st, 2024.
What remains to be seen is if there will be an increment in their allowances in the new financial year.
