The government sponsored year three medical students stormed the Senate building at Gulu University to demand for their money that they are entitled to on Wednesday.
Students confronted the Vice chancellor on his first day in office after returning from trip, to demand for equipment money, living out allowances and services at the faculty.
Under their umbrella association, Gulu University Government Sponsored Students Association (GUGOSSA), the students were led by their leaders to fight for their own welfare. It has become a common slogan that, “if you don’t go for your money, they(University) won’t give it you”. Now students have made it their obligation to always match to the administration and demand for their entitlements.
The government students were striking against the delay of the equipment money which is supposed to be used in buying medical equipment for ward practice. The students who are supposed to receive this money before beginning of semester expressed their grievances over the chronic delays in releasing their money.
The meeting was attended by the Vice Chancellor Professor George Openjuru, University bursur, University Secretary and Dean of students. After heated discussion, the University administrators promised to pay their allowances as soon as possible and immediately initiate the payments for equipment money.
