From inventing cars to phone and computer applications, Makerere University the hotbed of chaos and innovations can’t seem to run out of the finest ideologies and unique innovations.
A group of four students at the ‘hill of the learned’ have yet again come up with a social networking site that aims at sharing comedy and humor among friends and family called CraQit.
.
The site that has got a striking resemblance to twitter and facebook combined is still under development but already up for use and anyone can join it.
The students behind the social networking site include; Okello Joseph doing Bachelor in Electrical Engineering, Mugenyie Columbus and Tumwebaze Lebriand doing Bachelor in Computer Science and Abala Nicholas offering a Bachelor in Land Economics all going to their Second year.
It is no wonder that the inspiration was drawn from Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO and founder Facebook arguably one of the leading social networking sites today. The moral of giving birth to the site in his university room has been emulated by the students who also do most of the work in their hostel rooms.
“The greater part of the coding is done when lectures are done back in the hostel room and more of it where we can access free wireless internet”, stressed Mugenyie Columbus the Chief Technology Officer who handles all the coding of the site.
The application has attracted the attention of prominent comedians who have really loved the idea. Omara Daniel famously known as ‘Odoch’ from the “gone-to-the-dogs” Hostel series was fascinated by the idea and took the app for a test and went ahead to call other comedians to embrace the site.
“The moral behind making this social networking site is we needed a site that basically focuses on purely comedy, something that seems to be the thing these days,” noted Okello Joseph who runs the CraQit franchise.
Are we seeing our own Facebook or twitter in some years to come? Well after hands experience and test-drive on the application by the Campusbee writer, the innovation seems to be taking off and will blossom to something good if only the boys keep up the spirit,
