Sharon Auma, the youngest contestant in this year’s Miss Uganda contest is hopeful of bagging the crown. 19-year-old Auma is a second year student from Makerere University pursuing bachelors degree in Journalism and Communications.
“I find this year’s theme and contest at large very interesting and the fact that I am the youngest, I am learning a lot from my elders. It feels amazing competing against girls as old as 24,” Auma told Campusbeee.
Confident girl
The confidence written all over her face is unmatched. “I want to show the whole world I am not only beautiful inside, but also in the inside and I can do that through agriculture,” she said when asked about what she feels about this year’s theme.
Having been born in the Northern region, vivid images of trauma caused by the LRA rebels still linger in Auma’s mind. “I love the North. I am representing the teen girls that suffered the war. If I win the money, I will use it to uplift them through agriculture,” Auma shares her plans if she is crowned Miss Uganda 2014/2015 come Saturday October 25.
Missing school
While Auma is away at the Miss Uganda boot camp, her friends are in class, being suffocated with handouts, course work and oh, this is the tests week at MUK. How will she compensate for the lost time? “I miss school. I know I am missing a lot of matter, but this is passion. Miss Uganda comes once in a year, I believe this is my time to shine. When I am done here, I will surely return back to my books,” she said before clarifying that she asked for permission from the Head of the Mass communication department, Muk, before leaving for the contest. “My friends are gathering the notes for me, when I go back I will be given the tests that I missed while I was at boot camp,” she adds.
Last message to her fellow university students
“Varsity students should really know that agriculture is the future. They should incorporate what they are studying with agriculture. And oh, they should all vote for me,”
