Shock and grief has engulfed the Mengo Senior School community following the tragic death of one of the School’s most reknown teachers, Mr. Mukwaya Samuel. Credited for Mengo Senior School’s resounding victories in national and international Mathematics contests, Mr Mukwaya was involved in a grisly Boda Boda accident today morning and rushed to Mulago Hospital where he was unfortunately pronounced dead on arrival.
Mr. Mukwaya has been an A-level mathematics teacher at the Bukesa-based School for some time where he rose through the ranks to become head of the mathematics Department at the time of his death. He had grown to become one of the most loved teachers, according to numerous obituaries that have been pouring in from current students, alumni and staff of the School.
“It’s heart breaking to lose a great mentor, friend and best teacher I ever had. A teacher who always pushed me to my limits even with all my ranting and nagging. It’s really sad news. Rest in peace Mr. Mukwaya, I will never forget you,” read a Facebook post made by Bulega Duncan, one of Mr. Mukwaya’s former students.
Mengo Senior School has organised a vigil for the fallen teacher to be held at 3pm today afternoon in the school pitch.
According to press reports, 80% of the 60-or-so patients that Mulago Hospital’s Casuality Ward receives per day are usually victims of boda boda accidents, and are said to cost the tax-payer an estimated Ugx 9bn annually.
May your soul rest in peace, Mr Mukwaya.
